From Barks to Mews!!
All About
Puppies….By Bob Bartos…Well that’s the book that lays in front of me as I write
this. I remember getting this book when my Amigo ( 6yr old yellow lab) walked
into our lives. I like to call him my Amigo, even though he was gifted to my
now husband and then boyfriend Ishi 6yrs ago….
Its been crazy six years, yeah I’d say crazy, but in a
good way…From Amigo sleeping under my arm, to gobbling down his piece of cake,
to bursting 100 balloons in just about 3 mins…to so many things that could make
anyone smile in any given situation.
You must
be wondering what makes go blabbering about my 6 yr. old lab. Well, I’d say it’s
got to do with the atrocities that we humans bring to animals offlate…but I’m
not surprised, because when we don’t spare our fellow humans then animals don’t
even come in question. Just recently I read about cat killing incident in
Kalina and then the daily reads about strays being put to sleep!! The horses at
NCPA that carry the weight of people which could be at least 4 times their own
weight, yeah, that could be the means of livelihood for a some people, but
couldn’t they earn their livelihood through any other means, and anyways they
must not be spending more than 10% of their earnings on the food for these
animal.
I often wonder that we humans experience anger,
sadness; get hurt only because we don’t get the appreciation, love affection
from others…so wouldn’t it be the same with animals? We can at least express
how we feel, what we think but have we ever wondered how would these animals
express it? Wouldn’t it be fascinating to hear them speak…that thought reminds
me of the movie Dr.Do Little.
Well, the
point I’m trying to make is why can’t we just show some affection to them, and
if can’t do that at least we can stop pelting stones at them, stop shooing them
away. We spend at least 50-100 bucks on our daily meal, wouldn’t it be nice if
we bought a 5-10 rupee pack of biscuits and fed it to the strays in our office
premises? Imagine the wagging tail, only an animal (read esp. dog) can go down
on its knees without asking for anything in return.
Life
anyways has so much hustle bustle to offer, so much, that we tend to forget,
what the simple pleasures of life are…to end this I want to describe my favourite
scenery…I know I know in today’s age may sound too cliché,but as a kid I’d always
imagined myself walking on a beach with a black horse and dog and enjoying the
sunset.I love cats too…with all their mewing and furriness…the point is not
about what animal you and I like? The point is about showing some love and care
to animals who are shelterless, have no food to eat and live at the beck and
call of us humans!!
So the
next time you meet a dog, pat him on the head and he’ll wag his tail endlessly
for you, if you meet a cat, rub its back and if you see any other animal…just
be kind, because kindness is all they
seek!
